Every casting needs someone who can say no. Anna Castillo says it with a camera — she runs the session and shoots it herself.

Two decades of choosing faces for this house. Today she is casting a single part: The Paperboy — the courier of Fall Winter 26.

She arrives dressed in the collection she is judging — navy bomber, fur collar — and takes the desk.

Three candidates answered the notice. Each brought a mantra, an interests section — and a bag big enough for the morning edition.

Deep green leather holdall carried past a tweed skirt

The brief was simple: dress the person who delivers the news. What arrived was a wardrobe — herringbone coats with their collars up, bouclé the colour of morning fog, faux fur that shrugs at the forecast.

Every candidate brought the same three things: a bag big enough for the edition, boots that can take a doorstep, and an opinion. Only one of the three was scripted.

Halfway through, the collection stops auditioning and starts directing. The accessory reads better than anyone in the room.

The print of the season is set in columns: scarves, linings and headbands carry a newspaper page the wardrobe team typeset themselves. Worn knotted at the neck, tied under a cap, or trailing from a bag strap.

The bags hold the front page. Doctor's bags in chestnut and oxblood, a holdall in bottle green, canvas totes stamped with the masthead — every one sized for the morning round.

The verdict

Paddles up. The room votes 26 — and the final tape goes where nobody expected.

The jewellery works like a press pass: brooches in dull silver, chains that clink like keys, a charm for every edition survived. Pin one on and the door opens.

Boots close the argument. Laced hikers with orange cords, knee-highs with a satin sheen, bows on a kitten heel — all of them equally sure of the route.
